Costa Rican Spots

Ocotal

Last Visit to this beach was on the: 04/09/01.
Diving Points: Ocotal, Punta Gorda, Punta Argentina
Although the visibility was poor to extremely poor due to windy conditions, these are all great diving points. We saw incredible number of different species, species that make it worth wild like for example sting rays. We saw from the boat dolphins, pilot whales, and even turtles. Making it obvious that they are good diving points if you are looking to see the local sea life. You can even enjoy the variety of the species diving from the beach on the north part of the beach. Just be careful with the reefs when entering the water, look for a sand entrance to avoid tripping. Swim a little away from the beach and enjoy. You can also chatter boats to take you diving to the other points. We greatly recommend it

Herradura

Last Visit to this beach was on the: 05/10/01.
Diving Points: Herradura (Marina)
Due to the construction of the Marina for the Marriott, Los Sueños, The water has turn very "cloudy". It is full of sediments making it extremely hard to see. We did see lots of small species and lots of oysters but you have to be very close to see them. Also to get to the diving point we were, you must take a boat and head west along the north reef, you will see the tip of the reef outside the water. Just be aware that you will find lots of currents but hey that makes it even more interesting. Just swim around the reef and you should have a ball IF you can see LOL!!!

Isla del Caño

Last Visit was on the: 02/17/02.
Diving Points: Los Arcos, El Barco, Bajo del Diablo, El Barco
This is an awsome place to go diving.  Very far from San Jose and 2 hours away by boat, it is a National Park, so not only does it have a beautiful underwater scene, but the island itself is an amazing view.  You cannot stay at the island because of the protection laws and you have to pay the park admittance fee but trust me, it is more than worth it.  It is a great place to see sharks, a great place to get away from the big city life and a great place to scuba dive.

Playa Potrero

Last Visit was on the: 12/23/03
Diving Points: Las Playitas, Potrero Beach
This is a great place to go diving. About a 5 hour drive from San Jose, this area has many different diving spots. We tried to dive at a point called Roca Sucia "Dirty Rock" But the current was so extremely strong and we had a few newcomers, that by the time we were half way underwater we were already about 50 meters away from the rock. There are also several places to see sharks and a good place for whale encounters. A beautiful calm beach with a busy beach close by if you want to party.  Las Playitas is an excellent place for shallow diving for beginners and for snorkeling.  A nice secluded beach but with lots of boats coming and going.
